FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION

Q) Can you use lump charcoal or lump hardwood?

A) You can absolutely use lump charcoal, just realize that it burns much hotter and creates more embers and sparks than traditional briquettes.  If you want to use lump hardwood like hickory or mesquite putting a few layers of briquettes in the bottom of the HoBo helps get it started more efficiently.

Q) What type of paper and how much should I use?

A) We recommend you use dry paper from the charcoal bag itself.  It doesn't take much and it is already dry and lights with ease.  You can also use dry newspapers or dry grocery bag style paper.  You can loosely pack the bottom with a couple of crumpled pieces so proper airflow is achieved.  It doesn’t take much!
